Apsis Recording

Opeth Drummer Gone
Opeth have now officially parted ways with drummer Martin Lopez and have replaced him with Martin Axenrot. A statement on the matter can be found at www.opeth.com. Meanwhile, the bands latest offering "Ghost Reveries" will be reissued as a special edition deluxe version through Roadrunner on July 25th. No word yet on bonus features.

New Trivium Songs

News 5/09/06 Deftones, Slayer, Daath

New Deftones Single
The Deftones posted a studio version of their new single "Beware The Water" on their official Myspace page yesterday and then removed it from the page shortly after. However, a clip of it can be found online over at www.deftonesworld.com. The song is expected to serve as the new single from the bands forthcoming as-yet untitled new album which will see a September 12th release date through Maverick.

New Slayer Album
Slayer are now looking at a July 25th release date through American Recordings for their as-yet untitled new album. The effort will be preceded by a new EP which will feature the bands new track "Cult", along with some live versions of older tracks. The aforementioned EP will only be available at "Hot Topic" stores.

Daath Recording Album
Daath have re-entered the studio to continue work on new material for their upcoming Roadrunner debut, "The Hinderers". The group are working on five new songs for the effort with James Murphy of Death, etc. fame serving as the producer. A fall release for the outing is expected.

The story of Sciatica goes far beyond mere words. It is a concept and an existential force that knows no boundaries. In the spring of 2004 (sometime around March) Mike and Christine had a dream and a vision to start a band to surpass mere trends and limitations that the so-called "scene" is full of. The idea was to create music that was accessible to all types of music fans from the hardcore and punk kids to the death metal and groove metal enthusiasts, as well as the indie rocker and emo kid.

The name "Sciatica" represents extreme pain, and is also a chronically painful back condition that presses on the sciatic nerve (one of the largest nerves in your body). We represent what metal and punk and hardcore was back in the early days when the movement and the music started....NO HOLDS BARRED!

This bands pull no punches attitude and a party hard and rock even harder outlook on life. The glory days of heavy music when bands played till they couldn't move, crowds moved till they couldn't breathe, and metal meant playing loud obnoxious and evil music. What happened to metal bands that would kick your ass on stage, and then party after the show with their fans? The answer is Sciatica.

Breaking musical boundaries, putting forth one of the most painful and emotional live shows....this is Sciatica. Pure genuine aggression and feeling mixed with true musical prowess, this is a band you don't want to miss. We have one goal and it is simply this: TO PLAY EVERYWHERE ALL OF THE TIME, AND DEMOLISH EVERYTHING. Purging inner demons with influences ranging from hatebreed and slayer, clutch and zao, alice in chains, dillinger escape plan and even the cure, we pride ourselves in the fact that we give you your moneys worth (and more)...their aren't many unique and honest bands out today, but Sciatica is most definitely one of them.

Interview with Mike Hate - 5/3/06

Last night Sciatica invited me to come out to Soundworks Studio in Decatur to listen to their new un-mixed CD...and let me say, NOBODY has anything out like it right now. The mixture of styles...the throaty yells, the beautiful female voices, the riffs and solos, the massive bass, and the unbelievable drumming make this album one to watch. I hope this band gets the respect they are due because of this album...but, that is just one aspect of the band...if you havent caught them live, you are missing one hell of a ride. I asked Mike Hate a few questions that were of interest to me and hopefully our readers...

1. What CDs have you guys been listening to lately? What CDs were the biggest influence or your work?
Well we all listen to such varied music from day to day it's hard to say. I know Chris just got the new Tool album, J has been listening to Black Dahlia Murder, Hank III, Helmet, Christine has been listening to Selfmindead, Portishead, I've been listening to Dysrhythmia, Age of Ruin, Mastodon, Cephalic Carnage. I think the cd's that were the biggest influence on our work in the studio have to be Zao, Crowbar, Neurosis, Pantera, The Doors, Pink Floyd, just to name a few. Any albums by those bands.

2. Advantages of having a label vs. not having one? What did it take to get signed?
Well some advantages of being on a label would be more credibility, people take you a little more seriously as a professional band(i.e., venues, promoters, fans even). Having some kind of support and backing is nice as well. And it's definitely a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

3. What could we do to make the scene in North Alabama better?
If peope would just come out to shows more often, and people could get along better it would help tremendously. But that's a tall order.

4. How can your fans help you guys out if you need them?
Basically just by supporting us by coming to shows, buying our merch and our cd's, and spreading the word to everyone they know.

5. Where do you want to see you guys in 2 years?
We'd like to be on a major label, touring at least 9 months out of the year, and being able to pay our bills and eat by playing music every night.

6. What are some sacrifices you all had to make for the band?
Not eating much, spending money on merch or van rentals for touring as opposed to paying the bills or having food in the kitchen. Spending less time w/some family, quitting jobs, less sleep, among other things.

7. If you had to put your music in a genre...or you could make one up, what would it be?
We would like to think we're an experimental metal band that sounds like no other band out there. We are Hardcore Buddha Metal. The first and only.

8. Describe the recording process at Soundworks...did it go well? easier than you thought? Stressful? Band dis-agreements?
It always goes great at Soundworks. It was much easier in some areas, and in some areas it was a little more difficult. Stressful? not really. That's why we like recording at soundworks because it's not very stressful, it's very relaxing. No band disagreements really, the four of us get along famously.

9. What have you guys been doing to promote your music to the rest of the country since the scene here sucks dick? What about Europe?
Basically we get on myspace and our various websites every day for several hours a day and promote our music and our websites to as many people as possible, we are always adding our website links to other websites for more exposure, trying to get more internet radio play, interviewed for web zines, every day at least 50 new people across the world hear about our band(wether they like it is up to them..LOL). We do the same for overseas, that's the beauty of myspace. And we've been played on internet radio in France, so our fanbase online is definitely growing in europe day by day. So hopefully we'll be able to tour overseas one day not too far off.

10. Where would you say you guys had the best time playing a show? How many people were at your biggest show?
Probably the best show was in Owensboro,Ky(the wildcat saloon), Montgomery,Al(head on the door), Chattanooga,Tn(Ziggy's), Gainesville,Fl(The Purple Porpoise), and The Muse(Nashville,Tn). I know that's a few places, but those were probably the best 5 shows we've had. The biggest crowd we've played in front of would probably be Chicago,Il. Close to 300 people in attendance.

11. Any surprises for your fans...any ideas for the near future?
I think the new album will be a surprise enough for our fans. Really the future just holds a lot more work, putting out the new album, got a summer tour coming up, a fall tour of the west coast after that. Very busy, just keep looking out for us.

News 5/02/06 A Dozen Furies - Bad News

There really is no point in drawing this out longer than it needs to be, so I'll try and be quick and to the point. After two amazing short years, A Dozen Furies has called it a day. We could go on and on about all of the reasons why, but when it comes down to it, it's because we've grown apart. I guess a lot of the 'wrong' things fell into place at the 'right' time. I'm sure some might think we were a flash in the pan and now that our 15 seconds is over, we are quitting. Well, most of us have been doing this for close to 10 years and it's just time for some of us to move on.

With that said, we would like to express our more sincere thanks to everyone who was with us at any point along the way. All of the fans we've made, friends we've met, bands we toured with, and industry people we've befriended amongst our travels, we'd like to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. All of you have helped us achieve in just 2 years something that most bands never get to experience in their entire careers. This will be something that none of us will ever forget, and we hope most of you who did run across our path won't forget as well.

Who knows what will happen with us after the split. Some of us will continue pursuing music, some will move on to other things, and keith works at a gay bar. We all have myspace pages linked from www.myspace.com/adozenfuries so you can keep up with us if you do so desire.

To end it off, we are holding a farewell show at The Ridglea Metal & Hardcore Fest on Saturday, May 6th at The Ridglea Theatre in Ft. Worth, Texas. There are 3,000 bands playing, only the best of the best of course, so this will be a show you shant miss. We will be selling our merch(shirts, CD's, old EP's *Rip the Stars Down*, Hoodies, everything) DIRT CHEAP... and I do mean DIRT CHEAP, so don't miss out 'cause this is your last chance. Rolling Stones Member Hurt
ROLLING STONES guitarist Keith Richards has been taken to hospital in New Zealand after injuring himself while on holiday in Fiji. A band spokeswoman said Richards had suffered a "mild concussion" and was taken to hospital as a precaution. Media reports in Australia and New Zealand said Richards had hurt his head when he fell out of a palm tree. The legendary musician is mid-way through a world tour with the famous British band.

Red Sparowes & Samsa's Split
Red Sparowes and Gregor Samsa's split effort together will see a release on CD on May 23rd via Robotic Empire. Meanwhile, Red Sparowes' three way split with Battle Of Mice (members of Red Sparowes and Made Out Of Babies) and Made Out Of Babies will see a release under the name of "Triad" on May 16th through Neurot. Finally, Red Sparowes have set "Every Heart Shines Toward The Red Sun" as the title to their new album which will see a fall release through Neurot. While an official release date for the CD version has yet to be announced, the 2xLP version will surface through Robotic Empire on September 12th.

The Black Dahlia Murders Announce New Additions
The Black Dahlia Murder have announced two latest additions to the band: Drummer Pierre Langois and bassist Bart Williams. After both musicians toured with the band on their co-headlining run with Throwdown and their European dates with Liar they decided these were the guys they wanted to join to their group fulltime.

Here's what guitarist Brian Eschbach had to say: "We are very proud to announce the additions of Bart and Pierre to the BDM fold. We have already completed two tours together and feel that there are many more to come."

MTV.com is reporting that metalcore pioneers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have recently recorded a cover of DIO's "Holy Diver" for a forthcoming Kerrang! magazine compilation. According to bassist Mike D'Antonio, "[Frontman] Howard [Jones] sang in falsetto. It came out super good. Everyone's really excited about it. The guitar riffs are definitely modified to sound way, way heavier."

Into Eternity
Canada's technically progressive death metal band, INTO ETERNITY, will head out for three upcoming East Coast dates before recording the follow up to 2004's Buried In Oblivion. Commenting on the band's upcoming plans, guitarist/vocalist Tim Roth said, "Things are starting back up for us. First up, we will play 3 shows in the U.S. starting with The New England Metal Festival Sunday, April 30. May 1 we are in New York City and May 2 in Springfield, VA, both dates opening for GAMMA RAY. Hopefully we will get a chance to say hello to you all at these upcoming dates. As soon as we return to Canada we continue pre-production for album number four. Once again we will be recording in our hometown Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada at Touchwood Studios. We have original drummer Jim Austin with us on the new record and he's has been doing a great job in rehearsals. There will be one recording change with this album, for the first time we are going to send the album out to be mixed. Any Sneap (NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY) will be handling the record's final mix. We are fans of Andy's work and know he is the right man. This final step ensures that this will be our best sounding effort to date."

Calling Buried in Oblivion "a defiantly original work filled with stunning musical virtuosity and truly original ideas," (Revolver) INTO ETERNITY spent 2005 touring North America supporting the release on no fewer than six continent spanning tours. Look for the band to tour extensively in support of the new album late this year.

Local News Sciatica Studio Update...

Well we got around 20 hours in the studio this weekend w/Dave Pittman at Soundworks Media in Decatur, Al. We can't say enough great things about him. Find Dave here on myspace, he's in our friends list. And check out his band The Judas Goat here on myspace. Thanks Dave. I've(Mike)got 2 days in this week where I'll be finishing up guitar tracks, and possibly some more vocals. And this weekend we'll probably get in some more time on Christine's vocals. The progress we made was much more than we anticipated. All drum tracks are now laid down, as well as bass tracks and a good bit of my heavy vocals. Had a blast, took some fun pink pills, got really fucked up, drank a bit, watched Rush and Pink Floyd dvd's, Shaun of the Dead(all on a big screen projector), very fun and crazy weekend.

I am sure you have seen the bulletins lately about doing shows to raise money for publishing the magazine. I have some really awesome responses about the magazine. A lot of people think it is a wonderful idea. Had several say that they were going to send money for ads but never did. I know that its hard to come up with money when you are in a band. Let's face it, if you did shows for the money then you wouldnt get anywhere because shows dont pay unless you are BIG. So, I understand about the money situation. That is why we are going to do benefit shows. I will be able to publish the magazine without having to beg people for money. Bands/Musicians/Artists will get the exposure they deserve which will be awesome. Within 2 weeks of the MYSPACE/RENT A ROCK STAR Party the magazine will FINALLY be published!

Winter Solstice look to have decided to call it a day, here's their statement on the matter:
"For those of you who have yet to hear, we at the Winter Solstice camp have decided to call it quits. Each of our members were feeling pulled in different directions and it seemed that it was time for us to go the way of the band and pursue other things. Several members, along with members of Everything Falls Together, have already formed a new band called Ghost of a Fallen Age. You can check out a demo track at www.myspace.com/ghostofafallenage. "Just to put the Black Sabbath reunion rumors to rest, here is the inside scoop from Wendy Dio: Ronnie was in the UK to do promo for the new Holy Diver Live CD and while there, dropped in on Tony Iommi to kick around some ideas for the forthcoming box set, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years. We had previously mentioned that the two would be writing together as their respective schedules permitted.

There are NO plans for Ronnie to rejoin Black Sabbath, and in fact, DIO is preparing for their European tour, which begins May 27th in Roselare, Belgium.

Stone Sour have completed recording their upcoming new album, the tentatively titled "Come What May", here's what the band had to say on the matter:
"Stage one is complete! The recording process is finished. 16 tracks were recorded and we're in the process of picking just how many will go on the album. We're hoping for a late Summer release.
We are so excited for you to hear this! From songs like "30/30-150," to "Zzyzx Road," it's much more diverse and mature than the first record. Sonically, it's amazing!
We are currently working on the US Tour schedule, and new merch. We will keep you posted as more info comes in.
Onto stage two of the process: mixing! This will be handled by Randy Staub (Metallica, Hatebreed) starting on the 10th of this month."
The effort is eyeing a July 18th release date through Roadrunner.

Isis will soon enter the studio to begin recording their next album with producer Matt Bayles (Botch, Mastodon). A tentative October release is being eyed, while the band plan to issue a new DVD by the summer's end.

New Meshuggah CD
According to their label Nuclear Blast, Meshuggah are currently in the studio working on their next album.

New 36 Crazyfistâ€™s Song Online
36 Crazyfists' new track "I'll Go Until My Heart Stops" can now be heard online here. The song will appear on the impending "MTV2 Headbangers Ball: The Revenge" compilation, which is set for an April 11th release date through Roadrunner. Meanwhile, the groups new album "Rest Inside The Flames" is eyeing a tentative June 13th release date via Roadrunner.

Metallica Tribute from Kerrang
Samples from the Kerrang! backed 20th anniversary tribute to Metallica's "Master Of Puppets" have been posted online here. The outing, which is set to be included free with the #1102 issue of "Kerrang!", features covers of tracks from the aforementioned album done by the likes of Mastodon, Trivium, Chimaira, Machine Head and more.

RavenMadd Records Needs Artists + Bands for Tour

Recently I have taken the responsibility of personally managing a local (Huntsville) band DIVERGE. We are aiming to go on tour through the South East in the mid-summer of 06. Exact dates and certain other details are of TBD of course, but I will post further details as things get in order. We will be looking for bands and venues in potential host cities such as Nashville/Chatanooga, TN, Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, and Tallahassee/Gainesville, FL to join in on the madness as we come through. We are currently looking for 3-4 bands per city interested in participating. We have some free window decals we are giving out free to anyone who wants em. Just send me an email, which is on the right side of the page, with your address and I will send one right out. All I ask is to keep spreading the word.

Iron Boot merchandise is not too far off and its going to be top notch. I had an idea on making shirts with a twist...having band logos and their myspace addresses on the back. This would give your band mad exposure since they will be sold all over...Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Huntsville, Atlanta, Birmingham, Mississippi. We were thinking about asking the bands for about 15-20 bucks to have their logo put on them...this is about the lowest we can go...we need all the help we can get with the shirts since we are dirt poor and not making money.

Starting Friday we get to go in and record some new songs..and since we made a lineup change right after the "End of Days" CD came out, we are re-recording that one as well..so it'll be like having two new CDs.....tomorrow Producer Matt and I get to go over to the studio to do some other work....it'll give us a chance to plan out everything for Friday night...then one more practie wednesday night for any last minute adjustments to the songs (all 18 of them) and then let the tapes roll. We've got some good stuff heading into this new CD, the older one we loved and will love it more once it is recut, you'll dig the major differences on it...but back to the new CD "One From None"...9 songs clocking in around 40 minutes or so of all kinds of rock and metal. We seem to just write songs we like and not worry about style...yeah there is no lame ballad or pussy ass rock on here, but it does run the spectrum of metal and rock...wait until you hear us on "Blood Feast tonight"...totally different from our other stuff, but we think our buds in the Creeping Cruds will be proud. Vinne is killing the skins and my man Bo is really coming into his own these days. in a few month the guy has stepped up and delivered as a frontman and singer...he's got a little Paul D'ianno and some Rollins going on here and there..good stuff....and I get to make all kinds of cool noise...and scream behind Bo every once in a while just because, well I like to scream. We'll post some songs as soon as they are done.

Sciatica Set to Record New Full Length Album
We are set to start recording our full length debut album on Dreamscape Records http://www.dscape.us April 21st. We're going back into Soundworks Media in Decatur, Al w/Dave Pittman at the helm. He did a great job on our first EP and know it's gonna be even better w/our full length. We're looking forward to it. Dave is a great recording engineer and a lot of fun to work with. So check out Soundworks Media online as well as his own band The Judas Goat here on myspace if you get the chance. Hopefully we'll be playing a few shows w/them in the near future. So look for our full length album on Dreamscape Records to hit online stores around May or June(tentatively). And you'll be able to purchase them from us at live shows and tour dates in your area in the summer and fall months. And be prepared that this album will be like no other metal album you've heard before, the quality will be sharp, the new material is ten times better than our old stuff and we'll have some surprises thrown in for good measure.

Sciatica Speaks about Playing Owensboro, KY
We played Owensboro,Ky @ The Wildcat Saloon last night and let me say that it was amazing! Owensboro has the friendliest people we've ever met and the best music scene we've ever played for. You were all awesome, and really know how a local music scene should be. Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome and the unbelievable response you gave us. We had circle pits and moshing the entire night and one of the best and biggest crowds we've played in front of. We were the out of town band and never played there before and we have over 100 people stick around to see us play at 1 in the morning. We put on the best metal show we know how to and had a fucking blast doing it. We can't wait to come back!! And all the bands were so nice and kicked ass on stage...A Sin A Minute, Metatron, and Black Chain Apparatus. Check them all out on myspace when you get the chance. Our next show is April 8th here in Huntsville,Al @the Benchwarmer on University Dr. So come on out and enjoy!! This was our first show as a signed band on Indie Label Dreamscape Records http://www.dscape.us and we hope we represented the label well and were worthy of being on a label last night.

Morley Seaver of antiMUSIC recently conducted an interview with STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

antiMUSIC: You've secured [producer] Nick Raskulinecz for the [new] record. What made you choose him?

Josh Rand: "For me, it was just when I talked to him. I just felt comfortable with him. And for myself who's new to have somebody come in and actually like become a member of the familyâ€¦ I spent a lot of time demoing. I do a lot of writing. And to have somebody come in and say, 'Can you change this or that?' is really interesting. But for some reason with him, when we were making a decision, I just felt super-comfortable with him. And what he's doneâ€¦his previous work. The stuff with VELVET REVOLVER and of course with the FOO FIGHTERS speaks volumes, you know. So it was a no-brainer for us."

antiMUSIC: What is the songwriting process like in STONE SOUR? Considering Corey [Taylor, vocals] is usually involved with other things, I would imagine you guys write on your own and bring back finished songs minus lyrics whenever you reconvene. Is that right? Or do you write together?

Josh Rand: "We don't write together. The first record, I pretty much did all the music. Corey did all the vocals. On this record, however, everybody was involved in one way or another. Basically I wrote all the heavier stuff. Corey wrote all the vocals. Jim [Root, guitar] wrote several songs. Shawn [Economaki, bass] wrote a song and actually one song was written off Shawn's drum beat. So everybody has contributed to this record. Everybody writes by themselves. For myself, I write all the music and what I think the arrangement should be. Then I'll turn it over to Corey. He might make some changes and then I'll bring it to the group, if I think it's good. Then it'll grow from there because everybody will add their own little thing to it."

antiMUSIC: The last record went gold. Were the other guys concerned that the public was getting the wrong impression of what the band was all about from the success of "Bother", or that it was just the Corey Taylor project?

Josh Rand: "Yeah, I totally agree with that. I think that we're still misunderstood. We're a band. We're not Corey's side project. We're a functioning band. We were around before SLIPKNOT. For Corey to step away from SLIPKNOTâ€¦for him, it's to show a different side of him. But there's more to us. We're not, you know, just a couple of buddies getting together to jam with some other guys and tour for a month. We're a serious band. We take it very seriously. So does our record company. We're looking to do way bigger business with this record. I honestly believe this material is way better. It's more mature. We were rushed the first time around. It was basically me and Corey just jamming. We did almost all those songs basically by ourselves. It started off being just two friends together and then all of a sudden it became this other thing. The next thing you know we're signing this record contract, recording the first record and things happened really quickly."

Bury Your Dead have completed recording their new album, the tentatively titled "Beauty And The Breakdown", with producer Jason Suecof (God Forbid, Trivium). The effort will see a July 11th release date through Victory. For now, band guitarist Slim B had the following to say about it:
"As a band, we feel this record is the equivalent to Dr. Dre's The Chronic. We are excited as hell about this record - Jason challenged us to try new things and pushed us to do some things that may surprise people, while retaining and building on our sound. We can't wait to get back on the road and start playing live again, but recording has been the best experience possible."
In related news, the band have also officially announced Aaron Patrick as their new bassist

We now have a few business cards just letting the public know about the website. We are doing fine getting the bands into the loop, now we need help getting the fans into the loop. Therefore, If it is possible...i would like to send some cards to the bands, free...if they handed them out at the venue or got someone too, or even set a stack at their merchandising booth or the door, then that would work also...We have interest from the bands...the page has up to date tours in the area....area news...musician classifides...local cd reviews...local interviews, et etc. We JUST NEED YOUR HELP NOW.

Daniel Scobey who works in conjunction with a group called EbbTight Multimedia, will do full production...all the way to merchandising...very inexpensively. $25/hr recording time with mixing, editing, and final mastering. Black Label Society Signs to Roadrunner Records
Roadrunner Records is proud to announce the signing of legendary guitarist Zakk Wylde and his band, Black Label Society.

Having sold over 1.4 million albums worldwide BLS is currently working with producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Ozzy Osbourne, Red Hot Chili Peppers) on Shot To Hell, their first release for Roadrunner, which will be released this summer. "After spending a lifetime as Wylde Z. Coyote, I guess it was just a matter of time before I'd catch the Roadrunner," comments Wylde.

Shot To Hell is the follow up to Mafia, which debuted in March 2005 at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart and at #1 on the Top Independent Albums chart. The top rock track "In This River" from Mafia will be on the upcoming MTV2 Headbangers Ball: The Revenge album, out April 11th.

Rob Zombie's Album Streamed this Week
Rob Zombie's entire new album "Educated Horses," due on March 28 via Geffen Records, is available for streaming on MP3.com this week. The follow-up to 2001's "The Sinister Urge" was recorded at Los Angeles' Chop Shop Studios with co-producer Scott Humphrey, who had previously worked with Rob on the platinum hits "Hellbilly Deluxe" and "The Sinister Urge". Other musicians contributing to the CD include Josh Freese (A PERFECT CIRCLE, VANDALS) and Tommy Lee (MÃ–TLEY CRÃœE).

Zakk Wylde / Roadrunner
As previously hinted at, Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society have signed a deal with Roadrunner for the release of their new album "Shot To Hell", which is scheduled to hit stores this summer. The band are currently working on the effort with producer Michael Beinhorn (Soundgarden, Ozzy Osbourne). Furthermore, the group will also be one of the headlining artists for the Second Stage of this years "Ozzfest". Meanwhile, rumors currently circulating suggest that some 'headbangers' from the Main Stage of this years "Ozzfest" are pegged to sign a deal with Roadrunner shortly as well.

New DOWN Record Coming Out
DOWN fan site Down In Europe (www.freewebs.com/downineurope/) has issued an interview with drummer Jimmy Bower in which he discusses the band's plans for touring and the recording of Down III. The following is an excerpt from the interview:

Q: Is it gonna be a case of, tour round this side of the world, go home record and then tour? Or is it more likely gonna be a trip home and then U.S. tour before you write?

A: "We're gonna do this tour then come home and write DOWN III, and hopefully record in September."

As previously reported, 4QRadio.com (metal.4qradio.com) recently issued a video interview conducted with guitarist Kirk Windstein (Down, CROWBAR, VALUME NOB, KINGDOM OF SORROW) in which he discusses, among other topics, Down's upcoming European tour (May, into June) and the condition of bandmate Philip Anselmo (SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PANTERA).

Says Kirk, "Philip's doing fantastic, Jimmy Bower's doing fantastic. Phil had his back surgery, he's healing three, four months ahead of time, working out again, everything, he's in great shape, his attitude is unbeliebable. It's like, you know, going back 10, 12 years or something, his attitude and stuff. He's doing really, really good and he's pumped and excited about it, so I'm fuckin' ready."

New Cradle of Filth Album to feature H.I.M.
CRADLE OF FILTH frontman Dani Filth has posted a lengthy studio update on the band's official web site. A couple of excerpts from his report follow:

"Six weeks into the second bout finds us near completion aside from four or five songs worth of vocals, which is due to an illness that has been developing in me for the past month or two. Such was the seriousness of the ailment (I couldn't sing, so no difference there then!), that a referral was made to Rob's [Caggiano, producer] homeopathic doctor back in the States which immediately proved the worst. I was, and still am, suffering from serious digestive allergies. Now I'm on the same insane amount of pills that Rob was and is still on, plus a yeast-free diet that eliminates all booze (noooo!!!!), sugar, vinegar and bread amongst other life-giving foodstuffs. What a fucking nightmare! Aside from untreated meat, the only thing I can actually eat for two months it seems is the packaging that other food comes in!

"Ville Valo of H.I.M. has contributed vocals to 'The Byronic Man' whilst (Dirty) Harry has completed 'Temptation'. Both contributions are exemplary and really bring something really new to the table. Sarah Jezebel Deva, in a brief spell away from completing her own ANGTORIA project, has also sung and narrated on several tracks and we have had visits from select members of the Lincoln Cathedral choir to add some ethereal gloss.

"Then there is still the main guest narration slot, which, at time of going to press, is still being addressed with the actor in question. Of course, I will endeavour to keep you informed on this, when and where it happens.

"A few tracks are in the mixing stages to further our studio output whilst i regain my health (with this amount of homeopathic remedies rattling around my system, hopefully it won't be too far awayâ€¦) and these are sounding already far bigger than 'Nymphetamine'... this time choosing to stay with the production team rather than bringing in an independent mixer for the sake of continuity."

Being a metal vocalist is easy, right? Just grab a microphone and start screaming. You might be okay for a song, but try doing it for 90 minutes each show, day after day. Just like any other style of singing, to do it right requires proper training. And Melissa Cross is the perfect person to do that training.
Cross is a renowned vocal coach who has worked with a lot of metal singers. This DVD is her step by step training program on how to do it. It's not just a dry, educational DVD, either. It's interesting and sometimes funny. It's also filled with a lot of vocalists Cross has trained, including Andrew W.K. and vocalists from Every Time I Die, God Forbid, Madball, Shadows Fall and a lot more.
This DVD of course is directed at those who are or want to be metal vocalists. But it's also an interesting look at what goes into being a vocalist even for those who aren't in a band.

IB: How long have you guys known each other? Been together?
VS: We've known each other since high school and the four of us have been going a year.

IB: Musical influences?
VS: Blake: Maynard, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Scott: Tom Morello, Mark Tremonti, Darren Malakian, Tyler: Les Claypool, Flea, Ryknow, John Paul Jones, Cody: Dave Grohl, Danny Carey

IB: What do you guys do besides play music? Jobs? For Fun?
VS: Pretty much all we do besides play music is either go to school or work. Not much else.

IB: How would you describe the music scene around here?
VS: Emo + Southern Rock = Awful.

IB: Any recommendations to make the scene bigger, better?
VS: Quit with the cover bands. They stagnate the market for original bands.

IB: How would you describe your music?
VS: A work in progress.

IB: Biggest achievement so far?
VS: Finally learning that whether or not we think it's us or another band, the most talented bands don't always win a Battle of the Bands or anything else. And we had some songs released in England.

IB: What would you like to achieve next in your music career?
VS: Get people to like our music.

IB: What does it take to get your music on itunes? How many of the new eps have you sold?
VS: iTunes is connected with CDBaby. We've sold around 300 in the six months we've had it released.

IB: Whats the biggest crowd you guys have played for? Where was it?
VS: Northeast Alabama Community College. There were about 700 people there that night.

IB: What can the fans do for you guys right now?
VS: If you enjoy our music, support it.
